CROSSING THE EQUATOR CEREMONY
I received the card on the left when I crossed the equator in September 1967, making the transition from Pollywog to Shellback.
On the right, I'm the Shellback keeping the lowly Pollywogs in check in June 1968!
The USS Annapolis AGMR-1 crossed the Equator in September 1967, and again in June 1968. Crossing the Equator in the Navy is a milestone of sorts, as one can be in the Navy for life, and never cross the Equator by ship. I was very fortunate to cross the Equator twice in my short Navy career, and I participated in two "Crossing the Line" ceremonies, one as a Pollywog (September 1967), and, gleefully, one as a Shellback (June 1968).
(REAL FINE WESTERN AUSTRALIA IN JUNE 1968!)
I would like to hear from any of my former shipmates, as well as anyone who served
on the USS Annapolis AGMR-1.
Drop me a line. It's postage free when in the Combat Zone.
Thank you for visiting this USS Annapolis AGMR-1 web site. I hope you enjoyed your tour!
