My name is Kurt A. Dold, and William D. Dold is my older brother. I wanted to pay special tribute to my late brother by creating this Web page tribute for him. Many of his friends and colleagues may not have had the opportunity to visit with Bill this past year, (2001), during his illness, or maybe they were unable to attend his final services. Also, I'm sure that many of his former and current students may not have had the opportunity to speak with or to visit him during his illness. I sincerely hope that this Web page tribute for him is not too much, but merely, in a very small way, my personal tribute to my brother. |

This picture shows Bill's Dad, William Dold Jr., holding him for the first time in 1944. My Dad just returned home from the battlefields of World War II. This is the first time Dad has seen his first born son, as Bill (Biff) was born while Dad was in Europe with the 36th Infantry Division, 111th Combat Engineer Battalion. Biff was born on December 7, 1943, the second anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. |

One year after Bill Dold passed away, Bill White, Bill Dold's long time friend and colleague passed away. They were such great friends for so long, and I would like to say that after meeting Bill White during my brother Bill's final services, and a subsequent meeting after that, that I can see why they were such great friends. Both families have lost a fine man. |

William Donald Dold of Norwood, a Guidance Counselor and Teacher, died at the Stanley R. Tippett Hospice Home in Needham, Massachusetts on October 12, 2001. I was fortunate to be with Bill at his bedside when he died. Bill waged a courageous battle with cancer, but sadly he lost. Words can't begin to express the emptiness the Dold Family feels over the loss of Biff. "Biff" was Bill's nickname, as his mother gave him that name when he was a child. So, for as far back as I can remember, my Mother and Father, as well as his brothers and sisters, have always addressed him as "Biff". And that is how the Dold Family will remember him. Bill will always be "Biff" to us. |

For the past 34 years, Bill has been a Guidance Counselor and Teacher at the Braintree South Middle School. He has been there since he graduated from Northeastern University in 1967. My brother always spoke highly of the staff that he worked with, but more than that, he thoroughly enjoyed working with the students. And even though he was planning on retiring at the end of the 2002 school year, he would have greatly missed Braintree South Middle School, the staff, and the students. This was Bill's life, he worked very hard at it, but he felt that it was time for him to retire. My brother fell ill at the time he submitted his paperwork for retirement. Bill underwent major liver surgery and was given a clean bill of health at that time. Bill was pleased with this good news. But, cancer being the terrible illness that it is, recurred in his system in the late summer. Life is tenuous at best, and my brother did the best he could, not only in his professional life, but, he also did his very best during his initial recovery. And after learning that his illness was terminal, Bill faced his death with remarkable courage and dignity. |
